This december, I’ll be offering Two types of classes: a workshop and a hybrid lecture/workshop.
The classes will meet for two hours at least five times and be limited to eight students. Some of the classes will be on zoom, though if there is enough interest in NYC, I’ll host them in-person. The cost will be $300/student. the classes will either meet as a weekly intensive (meeting every night for two hours) or weekly over the course of five weeks.
the workshop is fairly straightforward. students will receive workshop guidelines and then we will cold-workshop the poems as a group. Prompts will be given, but are optional.
The lecture/workshop hybrid will either take the form of a special topic (ghazals, for example) or a 20th/21st century poetry overview looking at modernism, black mountain poetry, confessional poetry, the new york school, language poetry, the harlem renaissance, etc. in addition to lecture, Students will be given exercises related to syntax, enjambment, imagery, rhyme, and other literary devices explored across these various poetry schools/movements. Poems that come from those exercises will be workshopped. The lecture/workshop classes are for people who are looking for a deeper historical knowledge of poetry, form, and/or technical understandings of poetic devices, etc.
Deadline to Fill out Interest Form: September 15th, 2026
